Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: Acting on the orders of Tirunelveli City Police Commissioner Deshmukh Shekhar Sanjay (IPS), a special police team has been conducting continuous vehicle checks across the city to curb the circulation of narcotics. On August 2, 2024, while patrolling the Vellakovil area of Palayamkottai, the special team detained and questioned a group of individuals behaving suspiciously. They were identified as Joshua Biju Aaron (29) and Anthony Jesus Alvin (29) from Arul Nagar, Palayamkottai; Anandabalan (31) from Thenthiruperai, Thoothukudi district; Bala Gowtham (25) from Eral; and Nelson Pauldurai (27) from Murugan Kurichi, Palayamkottai. Upon discovering 150 grams of ganja and 10 packets of methamphetamine—a high-potency narcotic—in their car, the police arrested the group and seized the car along with two two-wheelers. Further interrogation led to the arrest of Isakki Muthu (27) from Palayamkottai, who was also involved in the drug trade; police seized an unlicensed country-made gun, three rounds of ammunition, and ganja from his possession.
