In a major crackdown on examination malpractice, the Mumbai Police have arrested six individuals in connection with an alleged paper leak in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) Drug Inspector examination. Shockingly, the arrests include three officials from within the MPSC itself.
High-Ranking Officials Involved
According to police sources, the arrested MPSC personnel include a serving Under Secretary and a Section Officer, pointing to a deep-rooted network compromising the integrity of the state’s public service examinations. Following their arrest, all six accused were produced before a court, which has remanded them to police custody until Wednesday for further interrogation.
Exam Cancelled, Relief for Candidates
In the wake of the arrests and the compromised examination, the MPSC swiftly announced the cancellation of the ongoing recruitment process for these crucial Food and Drug Administration positions.
To mitigate the impact on honest aspirants, the Commission has stated that a fresh examination will be scheduled shortly. Candidates who had previously appeared for the cancelled exam will not be required to reapply, nor will they be charged any additional examination fees.
Political Uproar and Demands for Transparency
The paper leak has sparked significant political outrage. MLA Rohit Pawar has publicly demanded the immediate resignation of the MPSC Chairman, alleging that the paper leak is part of a much larger racket. Issuing a stern warning, Pawar threatened to launch a statewide protest starting Tuesday if his demands are not met. He has also strongly urged that the complete police investigation report regarding the incident be made public to ensure absolute transparency.
Further investigations by the Mumbai Police are underway to identify any other beneficiaries or masterminds involved in the syndicate.
