Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh: District Superintendent of Police Sri K.V. Maheswara Reddy, IPS, directed police officials to mandatorily conduct “Palle Nidra” (overnight village stay) in every village to strengthen public engagement, maintain law and order and bring policing closer to the community.
The directions were issued during the monthly crime review meeting held at the District Police Office, where the SP reviewed the progress of cases registered across the district, pending investigations, charge-sheet status, crime-control measures, the Palle Nidra programme and the overall law-and-order situation.
The SP instructed officers to expedite investigations into priority cases, particularly crimes against women and children, POCSO cases, grave offences, property crimes, cybercrimes and drug-related offences. Officers were also directed to take effective steps for the execution of non-bailable warrants and the speedy disposal of pending cases.
Emphasising visible policing and greater vigilance, the SP directed all police stations to intensify patrolling and enforcement measures so that police presence remains clearly visible to the public. Special attention was ordered for sensitive villages, with proactive measures to prevent disputes and disturbances.
As part of crime-prevention efforts, officers were instructed to install CCTV cameras at necessary locations and strengthen surveillance through drone cameras. Police were also directed to monitor and curb public drinking, marijuana consumption and other illegal activities, while taking strict measures against drunk driving to prevent road accidents.
The SP further instructed officers to counsel known offenders and rowdy-sheeters, maintain continuous surveillance over their activities and initiate appropriate legal action against individuals prone to repeated altercations, including bind-over proceedings where necessary.
Special emphasis was placed on improving the quality and speed of investigations, particularly in property crimes and grave cases. Officers were directed to make effective use of technology, resolve pending cases within the stipulated timeframe and ensure justice for victims.
Under the Palle Nidra programme, police personnel will stay overnight in villages and interact directly with residents to understand local concerns and strengthen community policing. Officers were also instructed to create awareness about law and order, women’s and children’s safety, cybercrime, the harmful effects of narcotics and traffic safety.
The SP called upon all police personnel to work with coordination, responsibility and vigilance to provide more effective and people-oriented policing across Srikakulam district.
DSPs Ch. Vivekananda, D. Lakshmana Rao, T. Bhavani and Bhaskar Reddy, AO Gopinath, along with Circle Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors from across the district, attended the meeting.
