Udupi, Karnataka: The PMI Udupi team paid a scheduled visit to the District Prison in Hiriadka, Udupi district, on Thursday, October 1, and interacted with the inmates. PMI Udupi team members—Rosario D’Souza, Sister Melania D’Souza, Walter Martis, Maxim D’Souza, and Victor D’Souza—visited the prison to discuss the inmates’ cases and provide necessary counselling. The team briefed some inmates on information received from their family members and lawyers, as well as the current status of their cases. With the aim of encouraging the rehabilitation and reformation process of the inmates, PMI volunteers handed over various sports equipment to the prison authorities. Items distributed included badminton rackets and shuttlecocks, a fiber cricket bat, fiber balls, stumps and bails, and volleyballs. Additionally, T-shirts, Bermuda shorts, and undergarments were handed over, fulfilling requests made by the inmates during previous visits. The initiative by the PMI Udupi team is noteworthy; they engage with the incarcerated on a humane level, providing necessary guidance regarding their families and legal matters, while also fostering a positive mindset among them by encouraging sports activities.
