Udupi, Karnataka: Karkala Rural and Padubidri Police have intensified action against the illegal extraction, processing and transportation of stone, registering multiple cases and seizing vehicles, heavy machinery and large quantities of crushed stone.

On September 10, 2026, Karkala Rural Police, acting on information received during patrol duty, intercepted activities near a quarry in Kalya village, Karkala Taluk. Police found stone-loaded lorries and a Hitachi excavator at the site and learned that stone was allegedly being extracted, crushed and transported using explosives without valid permits.

A case was registered at Karkala Rural Police Station as Crime No. 71/2026 under the relevant provisions of the BNS and Explosives Act. Three lorries and a Hitachi excavator were seized.

In another major operation, Karkala Rural Police raided the CMS Stone Crusher in Kalya village on September 11. The inspection revealed several excavators, tipper vehicles, crushed stone stock and machinery used for processing rocks into gravel. Verification with the Department of Mines and Geology reportedly established that the crusher’s licence had expired several years ago.

Police alleged that Mohammed Shafi and Ranjith had jointly extracted and transported stone without the required licence, processed it at the crusher and sold the material illegally, causing loss of government revenue. A case was registered as Crime No. 73/2026 under Sections 303(2) and 112(1) read with Section 3(5) of the BNS. Police seized four tipper trucks, three Hitachi excavators, one crusher unit and approximately 20 loads of crushed stone.

Padubidri Police also acted on information regarding the alleged illegal extraction of stone from government land for commercial gain. PSI Sakthivelu E. conducted a raid on a crusher unit near the road leading towards Santur Subramanya Temple on September 11 at around 9:15 PM.

During the operation, police seized approximately 40 units of crushed stone, two lorries and one JCB vehicle. A case was registered at Padubidri Police Station as Crime No. 103/2026 under Sections 112 and 303(2) read with Section 3(5) of the BNS.

The coordinated enforcement action demonstrates the commitment of Karkala Rural and Padubidri Police to preventing illegal mining and stone transportation, protecting government resources, enforcing licensing regulations and safeguarding public revenue.
