Hyderabad, Telangana: In a significant breakthrough against two-wheeler theft, L.B. Nagar Police of the Malkajgiri Commissionerate arrested two accused and recovered 15 stolen Honda Activa scooters linked to multiple cases registered across L.B. Nagar, Meerpet, Afzalgunj, and Jeedimetla Police Station limits.
The operation highlights the police department’s continued efforts to curb vehicle theft, strengthen investigations, and recover stolen property for its rightful owners.
Metro Station Parking Areas Targeted
The case came to light after Thakur Dheeraj Singh, an IT employee residing in Nadergul, lodged a complaint on October 10, reporting that his Honda Activa, bearing registration number TS 03 EN 6835, had gone missing from the parking area near L.B. Nagar Metro Station. According to the complaint, the key had been left with the scooter.
Based on the complaint, L.B. Nagar Police registered a case under Section 305(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
CCTV Analysis Helps Identify Suspects
During the investigation, the police crime team analysed CCTV footage and developed leads that helped identify the suspects. According to police, the accused allegedly targeted two-wheelers parked near metro stations and used a master key to steal Honda Activa scooters.
The accused were identified as Tanguturi Sanjeeva Kumar, aged 46, a loan agent, and Mallada Gangadhar Sri Nagavarma, aged 49, a cab driver. Both reportedly reside in Medchal-Malkajgiri district and have native connections to Andhra Pradesh.
Police stated that the two men allegedly became acquainted while in Chanchalguda Jail and, following their release, conspired to commit vehicle thefts. The stolen scooters were reportedly sold through the second accused’s contacts, including buyers in the Vanasthalipuram area, for amounts ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 per vehicle. The proceeds were allegedly shared equally.
Fifteen Stolen Scooters Recovered
On October 17, L.B. Nagar Police apprehended both accused and recovered 15 Honda Activa scooters during the investigation. The recovered vehicles were linked to cases registered at L.B. Nagar, Meerpet, Afzalgunj, and Jeedimetla Police Stations.
The recovery is expected to assist police in identifying and returning the stolen vehicles to their rightful owners, providing relief to affected victims.
The operation was carried out by the L.B. Nagar Police Station crime team under the supervision of senior officers. The team was appreciated for its efforts, and suitable rewards were announced in recognition of its work.
Police Issue Vehicle Safety Advisory
Following the operation, L.B. Nagar Police urged two-wheeler owners to take preventive measures to protect their vehicles from theft. The advisory included the following recommendations:
