<![CDATA[The Delhi Police arrested six Bangladeshi nationals in connection with armed robberies and firing at a police officer in the National Capital on Tuesday. Mr.Pankaj Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) said the accused have been identified as Islam, Ikram, Sohail, Harun, Appan and Suttan Sheikh. The police said that the accused allegedly broke into the house of an elderly couple in Preet Vihar on July 5, attacked them and robbed jewellery worth a few lakhs,. Again on July 27, the accused were attempting to commit a dacoity in a house in the same area when the police control room received a distress call. Mr.Lokesh, Assistant Sub-Inspector and Delhi Home Guard reached the spot and spotted the accused, the police said. Mr. Singh said that Mr. Lokesh, ASI asked them to surrender but they tried to flee. He caught one accused, which led to a scuffle. One of the accused hit the police officer on the head and fired at him. Taking advantage of the situation, all the accused managed to escape, he added. The injured police officer, Mr.Lokesh, ASI was shifted to a hospital for treatment. Commissioner of Police Mr.Amulya Patnaik met him on Tuesday. During the process of investigation, the police found a bag belonging to the accused. The police arrested Ikram with help of clues, from Kanpur Central railway station. The others were arrested based on the information got from him, the police said. During interrogation, they confessed to the police that Ikram was well aware of east Delhi as he was a resident of the area. Mr. Singh said that he is in contact with other Bangladeshis, both in Delhi and Bangladesh. To earn quick money, he decided to commit robberies and roped in other members. He added that the accused have committed dacoities in Kerala and Bengaluru as well. The police recovered a Bangladeshi passport, jewellery, two country made pistols, two mobile phones, two knives among other articles from the accused.]]>
