<![CDATA[Mumbai: In a burglary case at a cell phone store which is located at JSS Road in Girguam the VP Road police identified and arrested two of the three people who were responsible for the burglary. The arrests were made within 48 hours of the offence last week. According to the police, the mobile shop on JSS Road in Girgaum was burgled on the night of September 27, and subsequently the owner of the shop filed an FIR. During investigation the police found that the area was not covered by CCTV cameras. A police officer who was part of the investigation said the footage were scanned from cameras covering the roads leading to the shop and the three men on a scooter was spotted travelling away from the shop with large plastic bags in their hands. The footages were then shown by the police to local informants, which helped them identify one of the suspects as Arfin Sayyed. The accused, Sayyed has a long criminal record, including a conviction under the Arms Act. He is the son of a clerk with the Sales Tax Department. He was recently released from jail, the police officers said. Mr. Sayyed was picked up by the police for inquiries from his Worli residence, and he allegedly confessed to his involvement in the crime and named his accomplices. One of the accomplices, Shakib Sheikh, was picked up and both were placed under arrest. Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Shantanu Pawar, Girgaum division, said that of the 49 cell phones worth around Rs.4.5 lakh which were stolen, 36 have been recovered and Rs.1.3 lakh in cash was also recovered, which the accused got after selling the rest of the cell phones. The police said the accused have been charged with burglary under the Indian Penal Code, and were remanded in police custody till October 6.
