Mumbai: The Kalyan railway police arrested a youth aged 28 for committing a robbery in a train on Wednesday. The police identified the accused who stole the bag of cash as Ahmed Habibali Syed. He committed the robbery when the Vidarbha Express had stopped at the Kalyan railway station. According to the police, the CCTV camera footage was of great help to the investigating officers to trace the accused from the railway station and from a residential complex. He was then traced by the police to Nasik and the stolen cash was recovered from the accused as the police team traced him to Nashik and apprehended him. Deputy Commissioner of Police M.M. Makandar said the accused; Syed has three other theft cases filed against him at the Kalyan and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway police stations. He said the Government Railway Police are always alert and are taking steps to restrict such incidents. The Congress MLA Mr. Bondre, in his complaint stated that an unknown person entered the AC coach, which was reserved for MLAs and fled with a bag, which had the cash and an ATM card, and a file containing important documents. He said that he tried chasing him, but the thief escaped. In yet another theft case on Monday the cash of Rs.10, 000/- and ID card were stolen from Shiv Sena’s MLA, Mr. Sanjay Raimulkar, who was travelling in Devagiri Express. In this case, the police suspect that the incident occurred between Thane and Kalyan railway stations. Mr. Makandar said an investigation is being carried out on Mr. Raimulkar’s case. ]]>
