Chikkamagaluru: In Karnataka Chikkamagaluru is a hill station where in the recent rains the district was affected with floods and the people who lived there faced a great deal of trouble due to the floods. With the presence of the Indian Army personal the people who were affected by the floods were rescued and later the public bid a hearty farewell to the Indian Army team. They had rescued many people stranded in many places in Mudigere taluk. The areas affected by the floods are Alekhan Horatti near Kottigehara, Durgadahalli, Malleshanagudda and other places. The Indian Army team comprising of 34 personal were involved in the search and rescue operations in the affected areas and they rescued 76 persons. During the rescue operation the army men had carried the patients stuck near Durgadahalli on their shoulders for about eight kilometres in an effort to rescue them. A resident of Alekhan Horatti, Ms. Pavithra, said she and others of the village were stuck after there were landslips in the villages. She said that we had lost all hope of being saved and never expected that someone would come and save us. The Indian Army men did save us and we are all grateful to them. Another woman said that she had learnt about the sacrifice and valour of the army men only through media all through the years but now she said now we have seen for ourselves how they work for the safety of others and added saying that they have saves our lives. A couple of women also tied rakhis to the army men on the occasion. ]]>
