Vadodara: A man involved in a gruesome crime was arrested by police on Tuesday. The incident took place in Balasinor in Mahisagar district of Gujurat in the last week. According to the police, the accused who had raped and murdered an elderly woman was arrested this week that was reported earlier. It is said that the pious woman worked as a cook and supplied tiffin services to make a living. The accused Gulam Sheikh targeted the woman who used to stay alone and carried out recce for several days before the crime. Finally, on August 17, he approached her when it was raining with pretext of wanting a glass of water. While the victim had gone inside her residence to fetch the water, the accused followed her and committed the crime. He had also taken some belongings from her before fleeing from the place. While fleeing he caused damage to the CCTV cameras in the area and one camera installed in a temple near woman’s residence. Later, the accused acknowledged that the jewellery he had grabbed form woman was not a gold. So, he threw it near Thasra and had sold the mobile phone to a phone dealer for Rs 325. The police had verified the information through the help of CCTV footage o cameras installed in shops and other temples in the locality. Tracing the mobile phone police had recovered the phone sold to a phone dealer. However, police ascertained the location of a manhunt and arrested him on Tuesday.
