IMPHAL: The Imphal East District police arrested a man aged 23 who was in possession of W/Y tablets which was worth more than Rs. 1 crore, from the Khabeisoi area under Heingang PS today afternoon.
Presenting the arrested individual along with the seized W/Y tablets before the media at SP Imphal East conference hall, Mr. Haobijam Jogeshchandra (Imphal East SP) said that when a team of Imphal East commandos were conducting mobile frisking and checking at certain areas comprising of Imphal East district today and during one such check that was conducted the personal inspected a Tata truck that was coming from Khurai Lamlong side at Khabeisoi area.
As the commandos noticed the nervous behavior of the truck driver, they made a thorough check of the truck and found a plastic bag that was concealed inside a spare tyre of the truck which was containing 182 packets of W/Y tablets. Each pack consisted of 200 pieces and a total of 36,400 W/Y tablets were recovered. The SP further said that the driver of the truck was identified as Thoubalmayum Shahabuddin (23) s/o Janeruddin of Hayel Labuk Awang Leikai.
During interrogation, the suspect confided to the police that the W/Y tablets were handed over to him by one Md Najimuddin (36) s/o (L) Md Abdul Haque of Hayel Labuk Maning Leikai at around 4.10 am at Hayel Labuk Awang Leikai. He further said to the police that the tablets were to be transported to Silchar, Assam and he was to be paid Rs 30,000 as fare, the SP explained.
The SP added saying that Shahabuddin was arrested from the spot at around 2.30 pm and the Tata truck along with the drugs were seized as well.
Efforts are being taken to arrest others involved in the case and the arrested person, along with the seized items, will be handed over to Heingang PS for taking up necessary action under ND&PS Act, the SP informed.
