Kolkata: The Kolkata Police were having a hectic schedule on the New Year’s eve as there was a lot of law and order violation taking place from the different parts of the city. In connection with these violations and crimes, a senior Police officer said that as many as 3,678 people were arrested from different parts of the city on New Year’s Eve for their involvement in various crimes ranging from disorderly conduct to drunk driving, and violation of traffic norms.
He said out of the 3678 people, 148 people were nabbed under non-bailable charges, 531 people for drunk and rash driving, 654 people for triple-riding on two-wheelers and 1289 people for not wearing helmets. The policemen picked up at least 50 people as a preventive measure, and 831 people were apprehended for disorderly conduct. One person was arrested for carrying illegal arms, and four for rowdyism, the officer said.
He said during Tuesday’s revelry, around 18 vehicles were seized for defying norms and 14 mobile phones that went missing were also recovered. From the exercise conducted the police altogether seized 234.68 liters of liquor, 2.33 kg ganja and 2.5 kg fireworks, the senior officer stated.
He said that several arrests have been made on the New Year’s eve and we are still accumulating the details. Above 5,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city since Christmas, with a special focus on ensuring women’s safety.
The Police officer said that strict vigil and patrolling will continue tonight. Senior police officers will be deployed at crucial points to avoid any menace.
