East Godavari: Andhra Pradesh police on Wednesday nabbed an inter-state smuggling gang and seized about 1,400 kg of cannabis.
Police have arrested two persons for smuggling cannabis in a lorry from Vizag agency in Andhra Pradesh to Madhya Pradesh.
“We seized a lorry, a car along with marijuana and arrested two persons who were transporting marijuana. The car was used by smugglers as a pilot vehicle. The marijuana was transported in the lorry,” Additional SP Mr. Srinivasa Rao told media.
He said two accused had been arrested and criminal cases would be registered against them and they would appear in court and the cannabis was being smuggled from Vizag agency in Andhra Pradesh to Madhya Pradesh. The police official said the bankers were requested to seize the accounts of other accused that transferred lakhs of rupees to the persons involved in the crime.
“A total of five accused, including a buyer, seller, intermediary, and transporter, are in the case. Two of the five accused are in custody and the rest will be arrested,” Additional SP Mr. Srinivasa Rao said.
