Eluru: Eluru Range DIG Mr. G Palaraju said that 25 more accused have been arrested in the tragic incidents that took place in Amalapuram on May 24. He said 19 people had already been arrested in these cases, bringing the total to 44 with the latest arrests. On Saturday evening, DIG Mr. Palaraju along with Konaseema and Kakinada district SPs Mr. KSV Subbareddy, Mr. M Ravindranath Babu, ASPs Ms. Latamadhuri and Mr. Chakravarthy spoke to the media at the SP office in Amalapuram.
Among the accused arrested on Saturday were from Amalapuram town, Ambajipeta, Allavaram and Ainavilli constituencies. He said the suspects were identified based on screen shots of 20 WhatsApp groups, Google tracks, tower locations and CC footage.
The DIG said Section 144 imposed for maintaining peace and security in Konaseema was being extended for another week. The shutdown of internet services will also continue for another 24 hours. He said there were opportunities to revive the internet from Monday.
DIG Palaraju said the protesters had vandalized public and private property that day, causing extensive damage. The DIG said that cases have been registered against them under the Public Property Damage Prevention Act (PDPP), adding that they will recover the damage to public and private property from the personal property of the accused, while the personal and personal assets of the accused have been seized by Revenue, R&B officials. DIG showed the media the PowerPoint presentation on the destruction of Palaraju’s assets and the messages on the violent strategy in the WhatsApp groups.
