Madurai: Awareness camps are being conducted for the Prevention of Sexual Offenses against Women and Girl Child in Madurai District. On the instructions of Mrs. Ponni, IPS, Deputy SP, Madurai Freight Police the awareness camps are being conducted in all the villages in the district.
Accordingly, an awareness camp was organized on 29.1.2022 at Ammapatti village, Thirumangalam subdivision, Madurai district. The awareness camp was held under the leadership of Mrs. Ponni IPS., Madurai District Deputy Superintendent of Police, and SP Mr. V. Baskaran IPS.
The awareness meeting focused on various aspects:
The meeting focused on sexual offenses against women and children, about the prevention of sexual offenses and how they can be prevented, on the law to prevent sexual crimes against women, and the extent to which the sexual offenses against female children affect them; about the importance of education for girls and the responsibility of parents in it, and the Child Marriage Prohibition Act. About how girls’ attention is distracted and the impact it can have.
The Madurai Commodity DIG and the District Superintendent of Police elaborated on the prevention of sexual offenses. Earlier, girls were required to wash their parents’ feet and perform foot worship.
Also in this awareness meeting Mr. Chandramouli, Additional Superintendent of Police Crime Prevention Unit, Mr. Sivakumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police Thirumangalam Utkottam, Ammapatti Panchayat Council Chairman, and police officers were present.
