In India, the government has launched a nationwide emergency service with a single helpline number “112”, which provides assistance for various emergency services such as Police, Fire & Rescue, Health and other services. This service is available 24/7 and can be accessed from anywhere in the country.
If someone is in distress and dials 112, the call will be immediately responded to by a trained operator who will take all the necessary details from the caller and pass on the information to the relevant department for immediate assistance. The location of the caller will also be identified by the control room, which will help the Police and other emergency services to reach the spot quickly and provide the necessary assistance.
The 112 helpline service is a pan-India service, which means that it is available in all states and union territories of India. This service is accessible through any landline or mobile phone and can be dialed even if there is no balance or network coverage on the phone.
To make it easier for people to access the service, there are also other ways to activate a panic call to the Emergency Response Centre. For example, on smartphones, one can press the power button three times quickly to activate a panic call. On regular phones, one can long press ‘5’ or ‘9’ to activate a panic call.
The Andhra Pradesh Police recommend that everyone should utilize this all-in-one 112 service during emergency situations as it is a reliable and efficient service that can save lives. The government is also working towards creating greater awareness about this service and ensuring that it is accessible to all citizens of India.
