Bidar: In a significant development, the Bidar police successfully intercepted and seized 118 kg of ganja, estimated to be worth Rs.1.18 crores, which was being illegally transported in a car. The Humanabad station police carried out the operation on Saturday, along National Highway 65. Two individuals involved in the transportation were apprehended, and the police also confiscated a Swift car worth Rs.5 lakh, three mobile phones valued at Rs.25,000, and cash amounting to Rs.15,000.
The raid was conducted based on intelligence suggesting the transportation of ganja towards Maharashtra via the national highway near Humanabad. The car contained boxes holding the marijuana. This incident marks the most significant case recently uncovered in the district, with 18 cases registered and a total of 1,017 kg worth Rs.10.17 crore seized over the past year. It has come to light that certain individuals have been exploiting Bidar’s border district to smuggle drugs, necessitating vigilant operations, stated District Superintendent of Police, Mr. Channabasavanna S.L., during a press conference held in the city on Saturday evening. He further added, “One of the arrested individuals is from our state, while the other hails from Uttar Pradesh and was working in Maharashtra. Further details will be revealed as the investigation progresses.”
Several officials were involved in the operation, including ASP Shivanshu Rajput, Humanabad CPI Sharanbasappa Koda, PSI Suresh Hajjargi, Tehsildar Anjum Tabasum, Traffic Station PSI Basavaraja, ASI Mohammed Ghouseuddin, Head Constable Lokesh, and Constables Anil Kumar, Mallappa Malli, Prabhulinga Swamy, Bhagwan, Santosh, Para Shurama, and Balaji. The department has expressed its intention to reward them for their efforts.
