CHENNAI: The Adambakkam police have apprehended the accused who had fled after stealing four sovereigns of gold from a woman who was doing Pooja at her residence.
On the morning of November 30 at 8.30 a.m. Octogenarian Rukmani was performing Pooja in her house which is located on 28th Street, Nanganallur. During this period two unidentified persons came in an auto to her residence, climbed the compound wall and snatched her gold chain and escaped in the auto in which they had come.
Soon after the incident, the woman lodged a complaint with the Adambakkam Police. The police immediately initiated an investigation into the complaint and as part of the investigation process, scrutinized CCTV footage for nearly 20 km.
Mr. V.Balan, Inspector of Police, Adambakkam, said, the police personal scrutinized all the CCTV cameras for 20 km. From the inspected footage we got the clues about the route the suspects had traveled. Finally while inspecting a CCTV device at the Central Railway Station the vehicle’s registration number was clearly identified. With that, the accused was traced to Tiruvottiyur and nabbed.
After the arrest was made the police contact the woman who had registered the complaint and informed her about the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of her jewelry.
The suspects were identified as Suresh, 30 and Kumar, 26, both are residents of Tiruvottiyur. Further investigation is on to ascertain whether the duo was involved in similar crimes.
