Chennai: The accused of a broad daylight public murder was arrested by the Tiruttani police on Saturday after the police gave a hot chase to the accused in which the accused persons who were five while trying to escape from police custody fell from a building before being apprehended and were injured. A gang of 5 persons waylaid the victim, Mahesh aged 30 with dangerous weapons while he was walking near the Block Development Office in Tiruttani, around 2.30 p.m. On seeing that his life was in danger the mam ran for his life and entered a restaurant but the gang with the weapons chased him into the restaurant which was in the town on Friday afternoon. The gang then attacked the man with the weapons in front of all persons in the restaurant and killed him and fled the spot. The murder was informed to the Tiruttani police and the victim, Mahesh was rushed to the Government hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. On the death of Mahesh the police organized a team comprising Inspector S.Murugan to crack the case and the investigation was initiated to identify the criminals. The investigation was started from the Victim’s home town and the police found out about the dispute he had with Vimal alias Japan, and his gang from the same village, over a volleyball match in 2013, said a police officer. During investigation the CCTV footage of the restaurant was taken and the police identified the criminals through the footage. While revealing the details of the accused the police said that Vimal alias Japan, 25, Gopi Raj, 26, Ajit Kumar, 25, and Satish, 25 are all belonging to Perumalpet village and Raj Kumar, 25 belongs to Tirunindravur. All the accused will be remanded in judicial custody. Investigators are considering the possibilities of detaining the suspects under the Goondas Act. After the dispute the two sides along with their associates attacked each other and Mahesh’s friends, Paul Dinakaran and Zahir Hussain got attacked by Vimal and his associates. Vimal’s gang, last February murdered Vicky who was a member of Mahesh’s gang. Again Mahesh and his gang attacked Vimal and he was injured in the attack. As these disputes were in process one of Mahesh’s friend was arrested in a murder committed recently and the hearing for the remand extension was scheduled at the Tiruvallur court on Friday. Since the Magistrate was unavailable the case was transferred to the Tiruttani court. After meeting his friend at the Tiruttani court when he was returning he was attacked.
