Chennai: A brave deed performed by a woman was appreciated by the City Police Commissioner Mr.A.K. Viswanathan on Tuesday. The woman chased and caught a man who snatched a gold chain from her and in the process he also attacked her with a knife causing injuries. Unyielding to the protest done by the accused she managed to hold on to him as she shouted for help and the persons passing by came to her rescue and handed over the accused to the Poonamallee police. The incident occurred on Sunday at 9.30 p.m when the woman, Ms. M. Dhanalakshmi aged 50, a resident of Vijaylakshmi Nagar in Kattupakkam, was on her way back home after visiting a shop near her house. On the way a youth on a motorcycle stopped her near Indira Nagar and under the pretext of seeking directions snatched her five sovereign-gold chain. Ms. Dhanalakshmi was quick enough and she caught hold of him and raised an alarm for assistance. Even though the chain-snatcher attacked her with a knife she managed to hold on and got the assistance of the passerby to bring him under control and they helped her hand him over to the police.
