The initial investigation conducted by the police has brought to light the names of two more persons involved in the shooting. On arresting the accused the police had seized their Skoda car, besides two pistols, a .30-bore gun, and a.32-bore gun that were used by them in the shooting. Manish Prabhakar was booked for attempted murder in October at the Phase VIII Police station.

The accused Manish had fired 3 or 4 shorts from the gun at Veer Singh who is a witness in a 2015 case against him of shooting, friend Hardeep Singh near the Kumbra traffic lights of phase VIII.

In October 2015 Manish, Harpreet, and brothers Tar Singh Buttar and Chaudhry Buttar had come to Chandigarh from Barnala for passport work. As they were going back home, the group, stopped at the Kumbra intersection, where Harpreet lay on a cot by the roadside, while the other three persons exchanged jokes. One of Harpreet’s comments hurt Manish so much that he pulled out a gun and put it on Harpeet’s head, threatening to shoot if he said another word. Harpreet ignored the warning and Manish pulled the trigger.
