On Dec 29 2022;when the troops of 158 Battalion CRPF and Jharkhand Police were out for an operation against Maoists in the forest area of Korgo, Pesrar, District Lohardaga. Jharkhand Maoists opened indiscriminate fire on them from well entrenched positions. The troops quickly took cover and countered the attack with effective fire. In the ensuring encounter the precise retaliation of the security forces, unnerved the Maoists and forced then to flee from the encounter site. The troops pursed them and apprehended two Maoists namely Chandrabhan Pahan and Govind Birjiya. Both were sub- zonal committee members having a reward of Rs.5 Lakh each on their head. Chandrabhan Pahan was found to be injured in the encounter.
He was immediately administered First Aid and taken to Sadar Hospital Lohardaga where he succumed to his injuties.Two pistols were recovered from the encounter site. From the leads generated from the apprehended Maoists Govind Birjiya, the troops recovered 200 IEDs from village Guni that were carefully concealed to avoid detection. Observing the security protocols the IEDs weighing 1- 2kg were demolished in situ. As the troops of 158 CRPF and Jharkhand Police conducted extensive search of the area again on 30 Dec 2022 they recovered 1 INSAS rifle,1 SLR, 3 .303 rifles and huge quantity of arms from the forest area of Village Korgo Police station Serendag, Lohardaga, Jharkhand.
