Rajasthan: Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting people through fake “work-from-home” offers and advertisements by tricking them into sharing access to their WhatsApp accounts through QR codes and suspicious applications.
Police and cyber safety experts have cautioned the public that rented or compromised WhatsApp accounts may be misused for illegal activities including cyber fraud, scams, and criminal communication.
Important Safety Measures:
- Never scan unknown WhatsApp QR codes shared by strangers or online advertisements.
- Do not install suspicious APK files or unverified applications on your mobile phone.
- Always enable Two-Step Verification on WhatsApp for additional security.
- Regularly check the “Linked Devices” section in WhatsApp and remove any unknown devices immediately.
- Be cautious of offers promising easy money or work-from-home earnings.
Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and immediately report any cyber fraud or suspicious online activity through the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or the official portal National Cyber Crime Portal.
