TIRUCHIRAPALLI: The Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Myilvaganan changed the mind of students by his soft approach and made students to disperse peacefully on January 23 in Tiruchy when protests at several other parts of Tamil Nadu turned violent. The students met the City Commissioner of Police Mr. Arun in person and conveyed their thanks. It was the friendly pep-talk of the Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order) A Myilvaganan that convinced them to quit the protest and disperse from the spot without any trouble on Monday, the students told the CoP. The DCP was in for praise from students in handling and clearing a group that barged into the district court complex on Monday. Mr. Myilvaganan told the protesting youth that the police had been always their friend and those who want to continue with the friendship can leave. The DC added, “Otherwise, the name you (youth) earned through the protest and the success will no longer be sweet but a stain on the city”. Police had been concerned about the youth as the officers too stood with them day and night in rain and shine, the DCP told the students. He said, “We shared food and goodwill, I wish that it should continue”. A few anti-social elements have planned to exploit their emotions. “You did a great thing. All of you have taught a great lesson to the whole country. I salute your intentions. Those who have real Tamil spirit and the love for the city will accept my appeal and clear from this place”, the DC is said to have told the students. The protestors left the place and greeted the DCP and thanked him. Some even broke down before him. As the wont of the youth, they never missed the opportunity to click a selfie with him. ]]>
