New Delhi: The Delhi Police apprehended a gangster who was in the wanted list, in the early hours of Tuesday after an encounter in Rohini, the police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said that a gangster, Paramjeet Dalal aged 31 who hailed from Haryana’s Jhajjar was wanted in a kidnapping cum extortion case committed in 2016. The police had announced a reward of Rs.1 lakh on his arrest. On receiving a confidential piece of information stating that Dalal would visit Delhi on Tuesday to meet his accomplice, the police laid a trap for him. In an effort to arrest the accused, the two police teams involved in the operation intercepted the car of the accused near Barwala turn on Heliport Road at 5.15 a.m. The police gave a brief chase to the criminal, Dalal who at the end of the chase shot at a police officer. The police officer then fired in retaliation, injuring the accused on the leg, Mr. Yadav said. The accused, Dalal was taken to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital for treatment. The police said that the accused used to threaten people who are property dealers, businessmen, illegal betting racket and others in Rohini and outer Delhi to extort money. The duo in 2009 along with his accomplice killed Satish in Delhi’s Mianwali. For the crime committed, he was arrested and later released on interim bail in 2016 for three weeks but the accused, Dalal jumped bail, Mr. Yadav added. Dalal along with his accomplices Pradeep Rana, Mohit Chhabra and Pradeep kidnapped a property dealer-cum-financier in 2016 and initially extorted Rs.25 lakh from him. The accused once again demanded a ransom of Rs.90 lakh for his release, he said. All the three accomplices were arrested earlier, the police added. ]]>
