Delhi: On July 26, 2023, the Delhi Police launched a comprehensive crackdown on the menace of Chinese Manjha, a hazardous kite string known for its life-threatening sharpness. Taking strict action to curb its sale, manufacture, and use, law enforcement officials carried out extensive inspections in 285 markets across the city.
During their operations, the police diligently scrutinized various shops and establishments suspected of dealing with Chinese Manjha. They meticulously combed through inventories and questioned vendors to ensure strict adherence to the law. In cases where violations were discovered, immediate action was taken to confiscate the illegal products and apprehend the offenders.
In light of the dangerous nature of Chinese Manjha and its potential to cause severe injuries, six cases were registered under Section 188 IPC against those found engaged in its sale or manufacture. Section 188 IPC pertains to the disobedience of an order promulgated by a public servant, and its use in this context demonstrates the seriousness with which the authorities are tackling the issue.
Recognizing the importance of community involvement in ensuring public safety, the police urged citizens to report any instances of Chinese Manjha being used or sold in their vicinity. They emphasized that responsible citizens can play a crucial role in curbing the menace by promptly alerting the authorities. The dedicated helpline number “112” was provided for the public’s convenience, making it easier for individuals to report any such incidents and contribute to the collective effort against this dangerous practice.
