Mangalagiri: In line with the Government mandate, DGP Mr. Gautam Sawang IPS launched ‘Mahila Bhadrathalo DISHA Nirdesam’, a Disha workshop at Visakhapatnam to set the objectives and role clarity for the 15,000 Women Police who joined the department. The senior officers of the state’s northern districts of state namely Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam participated in the program with various ideas to promote Disha and the major stakeholders of the Disha initiative, the Women Police and Mahila Mitra. Game changers of Andhra Pradesh Police, Women police, and Mahila Mitras play an all-encompassing and crucial role in terms of policing at the village level, bringing about a revolutionary change in the ecosystem of Women and Child safety and security through informal and formal mechanisms.
Women safety in Andhra Pradesh is further being promoted through the DishaApp, Dial 100 and 112, Disha/Women courts, building 4 fold capacity of forensic labs with scientific assistants, Disha Bill, Vulnerability mapping, Cybermitra, etc. The roles of Women Police include preventing child marriages, social outcasting, domestic abuse, elderly abuse, spread awareness on Cybercrime, Victim laws, and compensation, APPoliceSevaApp, DishaApp, sheltering women, village migration, school visits for child issues, etc. The Disha initiatives actively take into account the needs of a woman and have provided the state with the DishaApp, Disha Police Station with more than 50% women staff, Women Help Desks, Disha One-Stop Center for immediate medical assistance and temporary shelter to the victims.
The DishaApp was created with world-class features and services with the least response time as to promote evidence-based policing, increasing the conviction rate through dependable and un-destroyable evidence collected in the form of 10-sec audio and video clipping by the app. Technology is a force multiplier in the Police Department which brings in transparency and accountability like Electronic time-stamped receipts with response time frame, Investigation Tracker, FIR downloads, Forensic Integrated Vehicle, Cybermitra, Cyber Kavach, etc. Andhra Pradesh is one of the top states in India with an average of 90% charge sheets submitted to the court, compared to the national average of 35%. Using various mediums and mechanisms, the state hopes to further promote the spirit of upliftment and empowerment of women.
