<![CDATA[Chennai: A lecture on the topic ‘Cyber-crime and women victims’ was held at Stella Marris College in Chennai on July 19 where, Sylendra Babu, Additional DGP, Coastal Security Group told students to be vigilant and not spill their information to a stranger that could lead them in to unnecessary problems. “It is women who suffer maximum damage in cyber crimes,” said Sylendra Babu. Self-esteem was a pre-requisite to fight internet-based crimes. “There are serial lovers around (on the cyber space) so, don’t trust a stranger and share your details,” though it was easy to make friends with them, getting out of it would be a hard task, he added. “Contents posted on the internet can always be retrieved. Even if we delete, the offenders will upload it again and again. It is beyond our control”, he said. Cyber-crimes are committed with the help of a digital device that was connected to the internet. The devices could be used either as a target of an attack or as a tool used to attack other network users. “Key loggers which is an executable programme that records every keystroke made in the computer, are attached with the mails. Strong anti-virus and content filtering software will help in protecting your from cyber-attacks” he added.]]>
