Udupi, Karnataka: In a swift action promoting road safety and accountability, the Manipal Police arrested a car driver who allegedly caused a serious road accident while driving under the influence of alcohol and secured his remand to judicial custody.
The incident occurred on 19 June 2026 at around 10:08 PM on NH-169(A) near the U-turn in front of Sai Sagar Hotel, Ishwara Nagar, Manipal. The complainant, Abhishek Nayak (21), was returning home on his scooter after work when the accused allegedly drove his car in a rash and negligent manner while intoxicated and collided with the scooter.
The impact damaged both vehicles and caused serious injuries to the scooter rider. Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Based on the complaint, Manipal Police registered a case in Crime No. 99/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including offences relating to rash and negligent driving and causing injuries.
Following investigation, the accused was arrested on 22 June 2026 and produced before the Hon’ble Court. The Court remanded the accused to judicial custody, reinforcing the principle that driving under the influence of alcohol and endangering public safety will be dealt with strictly under the law.
The prompt action by Manipal Police underscores their commitment to road safety, enforcement of traffic laws, and protection of innocent road users. The case serves as a strong reminder that drunken driving can have serious consequences and that offenders will be held accountable for their actions.
