<![CDATA[Aurangabad: The city police are working on a proposal to extern 200 criminals on record and have already prepared the proposal for 170 of them. The proposals are in their final stages and set to be executed in a month's time. According to a senior police officer, Once the execution of externment orders start, it would definitely send ripples through political circles as the list includes political activists and volunteers across party lines. Crime branch sleuths maintained that already 22 suspected criminals in the city have been slapped with externment orders. The sleuths, in coordination with their counterparts at police stations, are working overtime to complete the proposals at the earliest. In accordance with Aurangabad Commissioner of Police Mr. Yashasvi Yadav all those posing a threat to the peace, harmony of the city have made it to the list. "It is part of our preventive action to ensure peace and harmony in the city and to check on miscreants and criminals posing a challenge to law and order." Criminals, self-proclaimed social and political workers, who regularly threaten and extort commercial establishments will also face the same fate. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Ms.Deepali Dhate told, "The city police have reviewed the existing list of active criminals and depending on the kind of activities they are involved in, they have been included in the list." Those belonging to the legal fraternity maintained that any person having even one offence against him, may end up getting externment notice, provided the police feel that his presence in a given area is posing a threat to peace, harmony and maintenance of law and order. Lawyer Abhaysinh Bhosale told, "The externment orders are initiated under section 53 and 57 of erstwhile Bombay police Act, which now is referred as Maharashtra Police Act." Based on the confidential report prepared at the police station level, a proposal is prepared and forwarded to the office of the assistant commissioner of police, which sends showcause notice to the suspect as to why an externment action should not be initiated against him. The suspect is given a chance to make a representation and accordingly his statement is recorded. This is followed by the proposal being sent to the deputy commissioner of police's office, where the process is repeated and the suspect is given another chance to make representation. The externment action may be withdrawn by the DCP. If not, the suspect is barred from entering the said limits from an area prescribed by the police for a period ranging from one to two years. The suspect facing action can challenge it before the divisional commisionerate, followed by the High Court.]]>
