After the Kalamassery bomb blast, the state witnessed the registration of 54 cases for disseminating messages and news on social media platforms in a manner that fuels religious animosity and disrupts communal harmony. Malappuram district reported the highest number of cases at 26, followed by 10 cases in Ernakulam City, five each in Ernakulam Rural and Thiruvananthapuram City. Additionally, two cases were registered in Thrissur City and Kottayam, and one each in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, and Kozhikode rural districts.
Law enforcement also identified numerous fake profiles responsible for spreading divisive messages through various social media channels. Facebook, Instagram, X, and WhatsApp have been instructed to trace the IP addresses associated with these profiles for further legal action against their creators. Special teams, operating round the clock, have been deployed in the cyber cell division of all districts to locate and take appropriate measures against these disseminators of inflammatory content. Following the Kalamassery incident, the chief minister and state police chief issued specific directives to identify those generating false messages and propagating them through social media. As a result, cyber patrolling on social media platforms and other legal measures are currently underway.
