<![CDATA[A day after two persons were arrested in connection with the abduction and gang rape of a young woman in Sector 16 here last week, the Faridabad Police on Thursday arrested the third accused in the case. All three accused arrested had taken turns to rape the woman, while their fourth accomplice, who is still at large, was at the wheel, the police told. The third accused, Ashok Kale, a resident of Haat Bazar in Nuh, was arrested at Punhana. None of the two accused — Sanjeev alias Sanju and Arshad — arrested on Wednesday have previous criminal involvements, the police told. The investigation, with no important clue to begin with, kept the Faridabad Police on its toes for four days. Pressure mounted with similar cases in other parts of the State turning up the political heat and the transfer of Faridabad Police Commissioner, Hanif Qureshi. The most important clue in the case came in the form of the make of the vehicle used in the act of committing the crime. According to ACP (Crime) Rajesh Chechi, Building on the information that the vehicle used in commission of crime was an SUV and bore a temporary registration number, as told by an eyewitness, the police gathered records of around 500 SUVs brought from Faridabad, Gurugram, Palwal, Nuh, Noida and even Delhi over the past three months. The other teams lifted the cell-tower dumps and scrutinised the CCTV footage outside the petrol pumps and liquor vends. A total of five teams were formed to work on the case and develop leads. Even the police were working on different aspects of the case, the breakthrough came in the form of a phone call by a local hinting the possible involvement of the accused and the arrests were eventually made. The interrogation of the two accused arrested on Wednesday revealed that they learnt from newspapers that the police were looking for them in connection with the rape case. Mr. Chechi told that the accused, all residents of Punhana, would go to Rajasthan during the day to avoid the arrest and would return late at night. The fourth accomplice is still at large.]]>
