Jaiga: In just a few days, four international drug traffickers, including a woman, were arrested by the Jaiga Police in the Jaigar Tribenitol area of the Indo-Bhutan border. Three and a half grams of brown sugar and a luxury SUV was recovered from the detainees. Jaiga Additional Superintendent of Police Kuntal Banerjee said the drug was recovered by the Jaiga Police Station.
He said the accused were Karma Sherpa (female), Sonam Sherpa, Ramesh Lama, and Shiv Kumar Darji. He further said that after preliminary interrogation of the accused, it was found out that Ramesh Lama was the main accused in the case of drug trafficking. His car was used in the case of smuggling. Accused Ramesh said he bought the brown sugar from Siliguri and Malda for smuggling to Bhutan.
The arrested woman Karma Sherpa came to sell the brown sugar in the Tribenitol area on Wednesday night. Police were already in an ambush in the area based on specific reports. The woman was caught with brown sugar in her hand during the exchange of hands. Additional Superintendent of Police said the estimated market value of the recovered brown sugar was Rs 8 lakh.
