Prayagraj: In a landmark decision, the Gangster Court in Prayagraj has transferred benami properties valued at Rs.50 crore, owned by notorious mafia leader Atiq Ahmed, to the state government. This significant achievement is a testament to the dedicated efforts of the Prayagraj police, who successfully identified and legally vested these properties within a span of just 11 months.
The thorough investigation conducted by the police uncovered that Atiq Ahmed had acquired these properties at minimal cost, subsequently registering them under the name of a mason to conceal his ownership. This discovery was crucial in ensuring that the assets could be reclaimed and repurposed for public benefit.
Furthermore, it is noteworthy that the Honorable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh had previously utilized land, liberated from the clutches of Atiq Ahmed, to construct group housing for the economically disadvantaged. This initiative not only underscores the state government’s commitment to combating organized crime but also highlights its dedication to improving the lives of the poor by providing them with essential housing.
The Prayagraj police’s meticulous work and the state government’s proactive measures serve as a powerful example of effective governance and law enforcement working in tandem to uphold justice and promote social welfare.
