Prayagraj: A clash erupted between two factions over the alleged encroachment upon land designated for a cemetery in Jhunsi in Prayagraj District. The victim sustained injuries during the altercation and passed away during medical treatment.
On Sunday, Jhunsi police apprehended two individuals in relation to the murder of an elderly man amidst a dispute over the construction of a wall on cemetery grounds on Saturday. Law enforcement authorities have deployed teams to apprehend the main suspect and his associates, as per police officials.
The deceased, identified as Ahmad Ali, aged 65, was the brother of the complainant Hikmat Ali. Reportedly, Hikmat Ali, residing in the Havelia locality under the jurisdiction of Jhunsi police station, alleged that Afzal and others had been attempting to seize the cemetery land for some time.
On Saturday, Afzal and his associates initiated the construction of a wall on the land, which is legally designated as cemetery grounds for the village. When Hikmat Ali and his family members objected, they were assaulted by Afzal and his accomplices. Several members of the family, including Hikmat Ali’s elder brother Ahmad Ali, sustained injuries inflicted by the assailants.
Ahmad Ali was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Afzal, Qayyum, Ashraf, and 15 other unnamed individuals based on Hikmat Ali’s complaint, citing charges of rioting, assault, murder, and related offenses. Upendra Pratap Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Jhunsi police station, stated that Qayyum and an individual known as Gulli have been apprehended by the police, with efforts underway to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects.
