Gariaband, Chhattisgarh: Acting under the directives of Superintendent of Police Vedvrat Sirmaur, Gariaband Police intensified action against the illegal transportation and sale of diamonds, cannabis and liquor across the district. As part of these efforts, Chhura Police arrested three persons allegedly involved in the illegal transportation of diamonds and seized eight diamond stones along with a motorcycle and three mobile phones, with a total estimated value of ₹1.83 lakh.On September 22, 2026, Chhura Police received information that three persons were allegedly transporting diamonds on a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle (CG 04 QH 5325) along the Rasela-Kharkhara route. Acting promptly, a police team reached the route and established a checkpoint near the Devri-Dhamandih tri-junction.
The motorcycle was intercepted shortly afterwards, and the three occupants were identified as Lileshwar Nayak, 26; Hemkumar Yadav, 65; and Puran Nayak, 33. In the presence of witnesses, police conducted separate searches of the three suspects. The search resulted in the recovery of three suspected diamond stones from Lileshwar Nayak, three from Hemkumar Yadav and two from Puran Nayak, making a total of eight stones, collectively valued at approximately ₹80,000. Three mobile phones—Oppo, Lava and Vivo—were also seized. Police additionally seized the Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle, valued at approximately ₹90,000, and the three mobile phones valued at around ₹13,000. The total value of the seized property was estimated at ₹1,83,000. A case was registered against the three accused under Sections 303(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 21(4) and 21(1) of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act. Following the investigation and after sufficient evidence was reportedly found, all three accused were formally arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The operation demonstrates the continued efforts of Gariaband Police and Chhura Police Station to curb the illegal transportation and trade of valuable minerals and other prohibited commodities, while strengthening enforcement and surveillance across the district.
