Tirunelveli: Tirunelveli DIG Mr. P. Murthy, IPS, has issued a warning about a scam involving the Grinder app available on the Google Play Store. This app, which allows users to share information and connect with strangers, has recently been linked to incidents of fraud and criminal activity, particularly targeting young people.
Scammers are reportedly using the app to establish relationships with users, luring them into private meetings where they are then robbed of money and valuables. So far this year, 22 cases have been reported in the districts of Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari, leading to the arrest of 70 individuals.
The public is urged to exercise caution when interacting with strangers on social media or other platforms, as these contacts may have malicious intentions. Victims of such crimes are encouraged to report them to the nearest police station or call the helpline at 1930.
Note: The Grinder app is a dating platform, and this warning highlights the potential risks associated with its use, especially for young people.
