Guntur: A special team of the Guntur Urban Police arrested a burglar Udaya Shankar who had been evading the police for nearly two years and recovered property worth Rs.14.50 lakh from him on July 25. A list of items to break open the locks of any sturdy door, a gold weighing machine and a bottle of liquid chemical to ascertain the originality of a diamond. These are the things recovered from an inter-district criminal, Oturi Udaya Shankar. Superintendent of Police, Guntur Urban, Mr. Sarva Sresth Tripathi at a press meet here said that Udaya Shankar along with his accomplices, P. Suresh and H. Saraja Rao were arrested during a vehicle check at Boyapalem on the Vijayawada-Chilakaluripet national highway. The main accused had a criminal history since 1999, he said. A resident of Poornanandampet in Vijayawada, Udaya Shankar started committing chain snatching chains on running trains and then resorted to burglaries in railway quarters. Udaya became friendly with one Suleiman and targeted railway quarters at Kavali, Narasaraopet and then houses in other districts like Visakhapatnam, Warangal and Khammam. After a small break, he teamed up with rowdy sheeters in Vijayawada, Radha Krishna and P. Madhu, procured a country gun and continued to burgle houses. Udaya Shankar was released from prison in 2015 and continued his activities concentrating in Guntur, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, selecting his targets with the help of technology. An accused in 19 cases, Shankar was finally tracked with the help of CCTV footage. A special team formed by Mr Tripathi consisting of SI Veerendra, head constable Sambasiva Rao, constables Venkateswarlu, Srinivasa Rao and Narayana arrested Udaya Shankar.]]>
