<![CDATA[Thiruvananthapuram: This Onam, the city police will be utilizing hidden cameras to keep an eye on pickpockets and chain snatchers. This would be in addition to the 300 plus cameras that would be put to use for surveillance. According to the police, the hidden cameras would be installed at major locations, amongst branches of trees or decorative lights. At present the city has 223 cameras in its surveillance network. This network will be reinforced with the inclusion of 100 more cameras. This will include both fixed cameras as well as moving cameras operated by camerapersons, who would move among the festival crowd. There will also be 30 bike-mounted police patrol teams equipped with cameras. Strengthening the overall surveillance will be booster patrol squads and mounted police, who will be patrolling narrow bylanes near festival venues.
