Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police have nabbed a group of people who were extorting money through Honey trap by using pictures and voices of women on social media. Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Police arrested Sukhdev Singh aged 26 and Nahar Singh aged 34 from Kaman in Rajasthan.
They were arrested by the City Cyber Crime Police on a complaint lodged by youth from Thiruvananthapuram. Defendants sent a front request to the complainant from the Facebook account of college student Ankita Sharma via messenger. They were constantly talking and establishing friendships. It was alleged that he later obtained around Rs.10,000 through mobile money wallets, threatening to lodge a complaint with the police and send it to others.
The cybercrime police are investigating the case focusing on the Facebook, WhatsApp, and e-wallet addresses of the accused. It was found that the accused were stationed in the Bharatpur area of Rajasthan and that the scams were taking place in this area. Then the investigation team of Thiruvananthapuram Cybercrime Police station reached Rajasthan and arrested the accused with the help of Rajasthan police using geo-mapping.
The investigation is being conducted by a special team led by DySP Mr. T Shyamlal. The team consisted of Inspector Mr. R Roj, Sub-Inspectors Mr. Biju Radhakrishnan and Mr. Bijulal, ASI Mr. Shibu, and Civil Police officers Mr. Sreerag and Mr. Vijesh.
