Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada: Every year, October 21st is observed as Police Commemoration Day to honor the supreme sacrifices of the brave individuals who lost their lives in service to the nation. On the eve of the Smriti Parade-Police Flag Day, the Andhra Pradesh Police paid tribute to the police personnel who died in the line of duty during the Chinese firing at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959. They also honored the 216 individuals who lost their lives this year while on duty across the country, including two from Andhra Pradesh. Today, the Smriti Parade is taking place at IGMS, Vijayawada, attended by the Honorable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the Home Minister, the DGP of Andhra Pradesh, and other dignitaries. A two-minute silence was observed in honor of the departed souls, with arms reversed. During this occasion, the DGP assured that the government and police department would provide support and assistance to the families of police martyrs. He also highlighted the police department’s crucial role in effectively managing natural calamities, particularly the heavy rains and floods that severely impacted Vijayawada due to the sudden Budameru flood. In alignment with the vision of Honorable Chief Minister Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu to create a drug-free state, an anti-narcotic task force is being established for drug control. As a tribute to all police martyrs, commemoration parades are conducted in all district units throughout the state. In recognition of the bravery and dedication of police personnel, a week of celebrations featuring various commemorative events will be held during Police Commemoration Week from October 21 to 31.
