Hyderabad, Telangana: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, cybercrime victims can now register FIRs online from their homes through the Hyderabad City Police’s newly launched ‘C-Mitra’ virtual help desk.
Designed to address the surge in digital fraud, C-Mitra simplifies and accelerates cybercrime reporting by providing end-to-end support in converting citizen complaints into legally compliant FIRs—without requiring a visit to a police station.
How C-Mitra Works
* Report: Citizens can dial the national cyber helpline 1930 or lodge a complaint through the portal cybercrime.gov.in.
* Connect: “Virtual Police Officers” from Hyderabad City Police contact the complainant to gather detailed information.
* Draft: Using artificial intelligence, a precise legal complaint is drafted and shared with the complainant for verification.
* Submit: The complainant prints, signs and dispatches the complaint via post or courier to the SHO, Cyber Crime Police Station, Basheerbagh, Hyderabad – 500029. A physical drop-box facility is also available for added convenience.
* FIR: After receipt, the FIR is formally registered and confirmation details are sent to the complainant via SMS.
The Hyderabad City Police stated that the initiative reflects their commitment to citizen-centric policing and the use of technology to enhance public safety and access to justice. The launch of C-Mitra marks a significant step towards strengthening cyber security responses and offering faster legal recourse to victims of online fraud and cybercrimes.
