<![CDATA[Chennai: A new concept has been developed to support and empower the struggling and downtrodden women so that they are able to meet their needs by earning their own livelihood. This concept was brought into being by the Rotary International District 3232 Anns Forum convenor Mr. Nallammai Ramanathan Rotary in association with the city police. The first employment after introducing this new concept is given to the wife of an inspector with the Armed Reserve Police as her husband Mr. R. Balasubramanian aged 53 became unwell and her son had to remain mostly at home to take care of him. So the life of the wife, B. Kalaiarasi aged 42 became a struggle. She has become the first Pink auto rickshaw driver in the city. These auto rickshaws are exclusively meant to be driven by women and the first beneficiaries are wives of policemen. The passengers travelling in these vehicles should mainly include a female if a male is travelling in this vehicle. Male passengers alone are not allowed to travel in the vehicle. She feels that it would be very helpful for her. These auto rickshaws that sport a unique look are expected to benefit women passengers. The vehicles can be spotted with pink canopy and can be found across the city, especially near Metro stations and bus stands.
