Mumbai: Mr. Devan Bharti was Mumbai’s Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) and was the longest serving officer on the post. He was a 1994-batch IPS officer who had conducted investigations in several high-profile cases, including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and journalist Mr.J. Dey’s killing. The backbone of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen was broken as a result of his efforts and he was instrumental in it in the State. He was supported by the State government to maintain his post in the same place by sending a proposal to the EC for continuing Mr. Bharti on the post but had to be transferred after the Election Commission (EC) asked the Maharashtra government to shift him. His new posting is yet to be decided.]]>
