North 24 Parganas: About three years ago, a couple from the Nyajat police station area of Basirhat police district in North 24 Parganas was employed at a rice mill located within the Habra police station jurisdiction of Barasat police district. The couple resided on the premises of Chalkal.
A grave incident led to the filing of a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, alongside certain sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Sub-Inspector Chandratan Roy was appointed as the investigating officer. He conducted a meticulous and comprehensive investigation, which culminated in the submission of a detailed chargesheet. Throughout the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings, it was ensured that Sukhlal, the accused, remained in custody to prevent any interference with the process.
Recently, the court delivered its verdict in the case. After considering all the evidence and testimonies presented, the court sentenced Sukhlal to life imprisonment. Additionally, Sukhlal was fined Rs.20,000. This outcome represents a significant and hard-fought victory for the victim and her family, as justice has finally been served. The girl and her family can now find some solace in the fact that the legal system has held the perpetrator accountable for his actions.
