Specialized units have also been deployed to enhance the effectiveness of the operations. This includes 140 members from the Special Operation Group, who are trained for high-risk and complex scenarios, and 17 members from the Deputy Inspector General’s (DIG) Quick Reaction Team, known for their rapid response capabilities. A crucial addition to the team is a 14-member group from the High Altitude Training Center of the KAP 5th Battalion. These officers possess specialized training in mountain climbing and rescue operations, making them invaluable in the difficult terrain of Churalmala.

The overall coordination and strategic oversight of this massive operation are provided by senior police officials. State Police Chief Dr. Sheikh Darvesh Sahib has conducted an assessment of the police activities, ensuring that the efforts are aligned with the highest standards of efficiency and effectiveness. The Law and Order Department’s Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) MR Ajith Kumar is supervising the police arrangements at the accident site, ensuring seamless operations and resource management. The onsite incident commander, North Region Inspector General (IG) K Sethuraman, is leading the ground efforts with precision and authority.

Supporting these leaders are several other high-ranking officials and commanders. Kannur Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Thomson Jose is actively involved, bringing his expertise and experience to the operation. Wayanad District Superintendent of Police (SP) Narayanan T is directly overseeing the district-level coordination, ensuring that all local resources are effectively utilized. Commandants from various battalions, including Santosh KV of the Malabar Special Police, Shahul Hameed A of the India Reserve Battalion, and Arun K Pavithran of the KAP 4th Battalion, are playing critical roles in managing their respective units. Additionally, several Deputy Superintendents of Police (DYSPs), Inspectors, and Sub-Inspectors are contributing their efforts on the ground.

In the neighboring Malappuram district, the search operations are equally intensive. District Police Chief Mr. S. Sasidharan is coordinating the efforts, ensuring that the 908 officers deployed in various sections are effectively contributing to the search and rescue missions. These officers are spread across different police sections, working tirelessly to support the operations in both Wayanad and Malappuram districts.

This extensive and well-coordinated effort by the Kerala Police highlights the dedication and professionalism of the force, as they work relentlessly to mitigate the impact of natural calamities and assist those affected in Churalmala, Wayanad.
