Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Police have advised people not to make online money transactions using public Wi-Fi. They noted that online money scams are on the rise on public Wi-Fi.
Police make it clear that any money or data transactions through mobile applications or websites using public Wi-Fi hotspots available at malls, airports, universities, etc. can help online fraudsters easily steal data.
Free hacking tools available online can also be used to hijack data and make new logins. Even those with limited technology can do this. Police warn that most of the stolen data is being used for scams.
Leading banks have recently warned consumers to be wary of fraudsters who ask them to download screen-sharing apps to steal data.
