Kolkata: All she wanted was a better job. And this led a young woman from north Kolkata, working in New Town, to a Facebook friendship with an out-of-state youth called Rehan alias Sarik Ahmed, who promised her the dream job. On the pretext of a job interview, he invited her to a hotel in central Kolkata, and she turned up, unaware of his actual intentions. Inside a closed room, he sexually assaulted her, and snatched her jewellery, money, and mobile phone.
Ashamed and unable to report the incident the same day, the young woman gathered up the courage to visit Burrabazar Police Station the next day ( 09/04/2022 ) to file a complaint. A team from the Police Station immediately swung into action and, based on technical surveillance and information gathered during the investigation conducted a raid in the neighboring state of Jharkhand. And so it was that almost within 24 hours of the complaint being filed, the accused was arrested and the young woman’s mobile phone recovered from him. The Hon’ble court has ordered to keep the accused in police custody till 23.4.2022.
