Kolkata: Based on source information, a notorious lifter who operated in different shopping malls, Bapi Ratan Bhattacharya (50) of Maheshtala, 24 Parganas (S), was arrested by the Detective Department’s Watch Section on June 1. Upon close interrogation, it was learnt that he used to visit different shopping malls in the city and its suburbs, particularly the food courts and stores, and lifted purses and bags either when people were eating or shopping, keeping their purses or bags next to them.
A search of his person yielded four android mobile phones of different models, cash worth Rs.5,000 and some documents. The accused was produced in court and has been remanded to police custody.
